Is AVG Anti Virus, free version any good? + More questions?
Wm2977 asked:
My mom just got another pc and wants anti virus protection (of course). We do not like Norton or McAfee at all, they slow down the pc’s performance; in my opinion.
Download.com has great reviews of AVG and I downloaded it. Usually free software isn’t much good, what do you think of this one?
What other software should I download on this new computer? Important things, please.
My mom uses AIM, but we do not like the “Real” AIM. I use Trillian on my notebook pc and think its decent, albeit no one else can see the emoticons used on there. I’ve heard nice things about Dead Aim, but cannot find a free download.
Thanks!

On-Line Software Reviews?
Woollcott asked:
I have a new computer, and it had certain software (primarily anti-adware & anti-virus) already on. I have been “stung” by malicious software, and am now very cautious and suspicious. I have been given some TREMENDOUS! advice from “Yahoo Answers,” concerning various pieces of software (both free and commercial) & have been advised to check these out by a fair and impartial reviewer. I have seen references to Software Reviews, so I know they are “out there.” But I imagine there must be a hundred of them, and that many of them are disguised ads or supporters of the products of a specific company. Does anyone know of a GOOD and impartial site that does software reviews?

What is the best antivirus software for Windows Vista?
pinoybigo asked:
I just got a new laptop and it has Windows Vista. With my old laptop (Windows XP), I’ve used Trend Micro Internet Security and it worked great. However, I’ve heard Trend Micro doesn’t work too well with Windows Vista, so now I’m looking for another anti virus software. I’ve heard different opinions from different people, so it wouldn’t hurt to hear more. Basically, what is the best anti virus software for Vista and why? If possible, give pros and cons.
Right now, I’ve narrowed down to 3 choices: Trend Micro (because I’ve used it before with XP) , Norton (because it has received great reviews for the 2009 version, and Kaspersky (has been known to be reliable but expensive, but the 2009 version has been taking hits from users)
SORRY I copied over the previous info. Underneath it is what I intended to “add”.

Also, does the type of anti virus software you use affect the laptop battery performance noticeably? I know some use more of the CPU memory which in turn uses more power, but is the difference great?
