What would be the best brand anti-virus protection software for a eight-year-old computer?

xRockxMetalxBbyx9 asked:

We currently have an eight-year-old computer that has about 40 infections on it for unknown reasons… My mom has talked to a couple of computer guys and they said that the best brand anti-virus software would be high-priced. I honestly don’t believe that. What brand would be the best for our computer? I’ll provide more information if needed.

The age of your computer does not matter, what does matter is how you use the internet and wether you keep your computer updated. Check to see if you have automatic updates on, it is on by default , this will keep your system up to date with security, however for an antivirus software, i would have to reccomend AVG antivirus, which is free at avg.com.
However i would also recommend installing spyware doctor as a backup for anything that AVG misses, you can get it for free here, just uncheck everything but spyware doctor.

What would you do with an eight year old PC? I see no other option besides the trash.

You certainly don’t need to spend more cash on this old PC.

People here will recommend AVG 8, but it provides a low 81%* detection rate and it has FALSE positives, that is non-viruses will be detected as viruses.

Avira in this case is a much better product providing a Higher detection rate at 92%** with No false positives.

    NOD32, Is a good Anti-Virus.

Iv got Windows Vista and experienced some Lag with AVG.
Now iv got NOD32, And my computer runs fine and Virus Free.

NOD32 or BitDefender. Don’t go for free antivirus programs on the net cause they might be the ones that kill your computer. These two have a 30-day trial. Try and decide whether they r any good… good luck!
