The BEST one is one that has a user with common sense that knows how to properly configure the program, has it set up to automatically update, and who knows enough to properly read the warnings and performs the right action when confronted with those warnings.

Norton is a reliable vendor. I personally prefer McAfee. When you get to the point of reliable vendors.. the rest is really a preference (how well you like the interface). You may choose to not install some of it's extras to minimize resources. You may configure it to not warn you about informational things.. these are all preferences.
Rarely some programs will conflict with other programs and/or software.. this is very rare. So if you are not having conflicts then the rest is up to the user.
I guarantee you each time you saw a user giving a bad review.. they either misconigured their product, did not know how to use it, or was spouting off about another vendor because they have a stake in that vendor or they simply do not know and like to be heard.

Good Luck.

I like Trend Micro Products. The Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security 2008 is by far the best as far as Anti-virus/Anti-Spyware/Anti-Spam/etc. It's Firewall could use some work but is still good. If you use Wireless internet at home you'll need to get Trend Micro PC-Cillin Pro 2008. Good Luck HTH.

The best anti-virus is ESET NOD32 then Kaspersky. NOD32 is the only anti-virus that got an Advanced+ rating in tests conducted at

The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) have poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). Norton is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans.

I only recommend buying NOD32 (advanced users) or Kaspersky. It has been proven these products are better than the best sellers (Norton and McAfee):

Comodo offers the best free firewall, while ZoneAlarm has the best paid for.
